    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mary Trotter Kion is a writer and researcher of American Western History. Though her early years were spent on a Missouri farm living much as the pioneers did, she has resided in the Pacific Northwest for the past 20 years. Her Kennewick home, in Washington State's southeastern desert, is near the Oregon and Lewis and Clark Trails, and the mighty Columbia River. Her teenage years were spent in California's Gold Rush country.

Ms. Kion is a veteran of the United States Navy WAVES where she served as a journalist and editor of a military newspaper near Washington D.C. She has been a military wife, living part of this time near the historical Fort Hall site in Idaho. At this location she was Society Editor for the Blackfoot, Idaho News. Since that time she has earned a degree in creative writing and graphic arts. She has taught creative art at a variety of city, county, and state funded institutions. At present she continues her studies in the field of Interpersonal Relationships.

Mary has been published as a newspaper writer, a poet, and is an honorable mention winner twice in the Writer's Digest Competition in both article and short story writing. At the present she is working with a publisher in compiling a history of Kennewick, Washington. She is, also, writing a series of historical novels extending from Virginia's slave trade to the mountain man era in the Far West. In the past year she has become a Contributing Editor with the Internet's Suite 101 under the topic Great American Plains.  She also has been a guest writer on Suite 101's topic Washington State. Mary has recently sold three historical articles to the Internet's  History's Women.

Mary shares her life with two big, silly dogs and three, little fuzzy cats.
